New car buyers continue to embrace Toyota Hybrid and petrol

Toyota Ireland has announced that demand for both hybrid and petrol powertrains continues to grow in 172 as Toyota buyers once again demonstrate that they are ahead of the curve by continuing to embrace petrol electric hybrid and conventional petrol powertrains. Following a trend set last year, petrol electric hybrid and conventional petrol sales now account for 70% of all Toyota sales in 172.

Increase in Hybrid Demand

In the first 6 months of 2017, hybrid accounted for 28% of Toyota’s total sales volume. This has increased to 34% for the first month of the new 172 registration period.  Demand for petrol electric hybrid in the core B, C and C-SUV segments continues to grow with hybrid accounting for 37% of all Yaris, 51% of all Auris and 76% for C-HR sales in July.

Move back to petrol

Along with the increase in hybrid sales there has been move back to conventional petrol powertrains by customers, most noticeably for the Corolla of which 40% of all sales in July were petrol, up from 17% in the same period last year.

Commenting on sales figures, Steve Tormey, Chief Executive at Toyota Ireland said,

“We are seeing that with all the public discussion around future powertrain availability, government bans and emission legislation, Toyota customers are increasingly moving to hybrid or back into petrol for their new car purchase. Toyota is the only car brand with seven different hybrid models as well as an extensive range of petrol engines to choose from”
